1. Introduction

Welcome to APecs ("we," "us," or "our"). APecs is a voice-powered workout tracking application available on Android (and iOS in the future). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the APecs mobile app and website at apecs.app.

By using APecs, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the app.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account Information — When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google's OAuth service. We use this to create and identify your APecs account.

Workout Data — We collect the workout information you log through APecs, including exercise names, set details (reps, weight, units), timestamps, workout duration, and any personal notes or reflections you add. This data is stored in our cloud database (Firebase Firestore, operated by Google).

Device Information — We may collect basic device information (device type, operating system version) for the purpose of diagnosing technical issues and improving the app.

3. Voice and Audio Data

Your audio never leaves your device. Voice logging in APecs is powered by an on-device AI model (whisper.rn). When you record a voice log, your audio is processed entirely on your phone. No audio files are ever uploaded to our servers, sent to third-party APIs, or stored in the cloud. The only data that leaves your device is the structured workout information extracted from your speech (e.g., "3 sets × 10 reps @ 225 lbs").

Transcripts of your voice logs may be sent to a secure server-side function to extract structured workout data. These transcripts are processed in real-time and are not stored beyond the duration of the request.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your APecs account
  • Store and display your workout history
  • Provide voice-to-data workout logging features
  • Improve the accuracy and performance of the app
  • Respond to support requests
  • Communicate product updates (only if you have opted in)

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your workout data for advertising purposes.

5. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We share your information only with the following service providers, solely to operate APecs:

  • Google Firebase — We use Firebase Auth for Google Sign-In, and Firebase Firestore (Google Cloud) to store your workout data. Firebase's privacy practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • OpenAI — Voice log transcripts (text only, not audio) may be sent to OpenAI's API to extract structured workout data. OpenAI's data usage is governed by OpenAI's API data usage policies.

We do not share your data with any advertising networks, analytics platforms, or data brokers.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account and workout data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and Firebase security rules that restrict data access to authenticated users. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion — Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Portability — Request an export of your workout data in a machine-readable format

9. Children's Privacy

APecs is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately so we can delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated through the app. Your continued use of APecs after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
